Upcyling - Why, What & How ?
In today’s world there is an immense scope to get things repurposed. Landfills are getting exhausted with the waste all around. We are expecting too much from mother nature and keep pushing her limits to get the things that we desire. Upcycling in my view should be the way of life. We should start imagining how we can provide new life to any object which we would discard for the end of its life. In other words, the end of the life of one object should be the birth of a new object/product for us. Through upcycling we will create a new world giving life to unwanted items in our day to day life. We will definitely reduce a lot of waste in the society thereby not filling our landfills unnecessarily.
The most important aspect is a sense of achievement and it also carries a message for the future generations that less can be more.
The initial thought that comes to mind is “How†we go about taking up this journey. In this article I will provide tips to make you think for your new upcycled project. Check it out & let me know your thoughts.
- Look out for things at your disposal i.e. things that have attained the end of their lives. For now assume it's a plastic bottle.
- Think of a necessity which might be useful for you. For example- in the current situation you might require a pen stand for your new home office.
- You now know the utility behind this bottle, the goal being a pen stand.
- Think of an artwork you might be good at. For example- painting, quilling, decoupage etc.
- Reimagine the stand with the bottle so that a mental map of the pen stand gets etched in your mind.
- Get into action: Apply an art form you are comfortable with
- Spread the word to your friends and family of this new life as you promised.
